We had a "flood" in our house in November last year. It started in our ensuite - the flexi-hose disintigrated and as a result we had a full water stream bursting out for about 20 mins before we realised anything had happened! ( It was at 3am - and we had the portable aircon on in our room - which is very noisy) There was so much water - the gyprock of our ceiling downstairs couldn't contain it - and thankfully Mr Dandy had just walked away before the ceiling collapsed! Not a particularly fun thing to be doing at 3.30am - I knew there was a reason my linen cupboard was full of so many towels!
Please excuse the quality of the photos - they are from Mr Dandy's Blackberry
We are very blessed that this was the only real damage done to the house - the carpet upstairs and downstairs needs to be replaced and the ceiling to be fixed ( now done)... compared to all those poor people who lost everything in the Queensland and Victorian floods and the Earthquake victims in New Zealand - we have NOTHING to complain about! Sure - it's an inconvenience... sure - I don't like living with bare concrete floors downstairs or bare flooring upstairs - but hey - at least I have a floor - right?
So, from little things, big things grow I hear you ask ?
Well, we have gone from needing the carpet replaced...
~ to deciding to re-tile downstairs instead ( much more practical for kids than carpet) - from the front to the back door
~ We have decided to move the kids play area to our old "formal" dining room - and do a few minor alterations
~ How can you have brand new sparkling, shiny tiles and 4 year old chipped wallpaint and cheap skirtings??? So - the walls are getting a facelift ( same colours at this stage, just a new layer!) and we are replacing our old skirting with a larger/taller one - to be more of a feature
~ Which lead us then to think about our kitchen! We were looking at replacing/updating it at one stage in the future, so we thought it made sense to do it at the same time as having new tiles laid! YAY!!! A new kitchen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO EXCITING!!!
~ Ruby is due to come out of her cot soon - so with the laying of new carpet upstairs, we've decided to change her room to the current guest room. Some new paint and the assembly of her new "big girls" bed ( :( ) means a new sleep sanctuary for my baby girl!
So, as you can see wonderful big things have grown from little things ....... a bit like these two!
Finn - less than 24 hours old
Ruby - also less than 24 hours old
Stay tuned for more updates on the big(ger) things!
